Send a private, friendly reminder with the meal, exact amount, bill link and a clear payment date. Check that the split is correct first, and mark the share as paid after you confirm the money arrived.
Make the first request easy to act on
A friend may have missed the group message or be unsure which amount includes the tip. Replace “you still owe me” with the relevant meal and one final number. Ask them to flag an incorrect item before paying.
Choose a date you actually agreed on, or ask whether a proposed date works. A neutral private message is usually easier to respond to than repeatedly tagging someone in a busy group.
If you need to follow up
If they say they already paid, compare the recipient and payment reference before sending another request. If paying now is difficult, agree privately what happens next. An app cannot resolve a disputed amount or decide a repayment arrangement for you.
Do not mark a promised payment as received. Keep the bill open until you can confirm it; that gives both of you one consistent record.

This example assumes Alex paid the restaurant and has accounted for their own share. “Paid” is a record of confirmation, not a bank connection. For a disputed bottle or shared dish, fix the item allocation before asking again.
