What is Splitopia?
Splitopia is a free Telegram Mini App for splitting bills. One person scans the receipt, shares the bill in a Telegram group, and each friend taps the items they ordered. Splitopia then works out everyone’s share, including tip and tax.
Do I need to install an app?
No. Splitopia runs inside Telegram. Tap the link and it opens right in your chat, with no download or sign-up.
How is Splitopia different from Splitwise?
Splitwise is a separate app for tracking ongoing debts, and on the free plan receipt scanning is not included. Splitopia works inside Telegram and is built for splitting a bill item by item: the receipt is scanned for free and each friend claims their own dishes.
Can I use it without a Telegram account?
Not at the moment. Splitopia is built for Telegram, so everyone in the split needs a Telegram account.
Does everyone need to scan the receipt?
No, only one person scans. They share the bill with the group, and everyone else just taps to claim their items.
What if the scan gets something wrong?
You review the recognized items before sharing and can fix names, prices, quantities and charges, or add items yourself.
How do people pay each other back?
Splitopia shows exactly who owes what, but it doesn’t move money. Friends pay the person who covered the bill the usual way, by bank transfer, card or cash. The creator can add payment details to the bill notes and mark each person as paid.
Can I split things other than restaurant bills?
Yes. Groceries, taxis, trips, rent and gifts all work. You can also add items manually when there’s no receipt.
Which currencies are supported?
Almost all of them. Whoever creates the bill picks its currency.
Is Splitopia free? Is there a limit?
Yes, it’s completely free, with no subscriptions or fees. Each person can create up to 5 new bills a day; claiming items in friends’ bills isn’t limited.
Is my data safe?
Yes. Receipts and split details are only used to run your split and are never shared with anyone.
